E-LEARNING COURSE ON PERFORMANCE EVALUATION OF MFIs
This asynchronous course is primarily intended for (financial) decision makers of Microfinance Institutions, such as financial and general managers. However, it can be followed by anyone interested in knowing how to evaluate the performance of an MFI (familiarity with basic accounting and microfinance principles is recommended).
To guarantee a successful completion of the training, Microfact recommends to:
- Dedicate around 5 hours per week for the training.
- Have basic digital skills.
- Have access to a good internet connection.
- Have access to a tablet or laptop/computer (following the training on the smartphones is not possible).
- Be fluent in one of the course languages: English, French or Spanish.

Objectives
The general objective of the digital course is to give participants a better insight in the actual financial and social situation of their own institution and their position in the market of microfinance.
At the end of the training, the participants will be able to:
- Understand what the MFI Factsheet is and the advantages of this tool.
- Fill the MFI Factsheet properly and interpret its results (Financial and Social Performance).
- Know the existence, definitions and interdependence of commonly used and accepted key performance indicators in the microfinance industry.
- Analyze the financial trends, position themselves within the industry (benchmarks) and identify key areas of risk to mitigate.
- Know the importance of performance monitoring as a tool for a daily management, decision‐making and business planning process.
- Know the benefits of transparency and performance assessments (ratings), namely to secure external sources of funding.
Course structure and methodology

The course consists of 2 parts:
Part 1: “Get to know the MFI Factsheet”
Duration: 4 weeks
Level of effort: 5 hours/week maximum
- In this part you will learn the MFI Factsheet, how to fill it in properly, its functionalities and advantages.
- The final assessment of this part is composed of the practical exercise of filling in the MFI Factsheet for your own institution, with the assistance of the Microfact certified trainer.
- Participants who are not employees of an MFI, will practice on a fictitious case that will be proposed.
Part 2: “Let your figures talk!”
Duration: 4 weeks
Level of effort: 5 hours/week maximum
In this part you will go through:
- The concepts of the main key performance indicators of the 5 family ratio’s: Portfolio quality, Efficiency and productivity, Profitability and sustainability, Financial management and Social performance.
- Practical exercises that will allow you to consolidate and test the acquired knowledge.
After finishing each of these parts, participants will receive a certificate of the successful training completion.
Trainer
Our course is an asynchronous course, focused on the individual learning of the participant. A certified Microfact trainer will be available throughout the course to answer all your questions.
2 live sessions with the trainer are included in the course agenda!

Subscription fees : EUR 180
Each participant can order the course via the Microfact Webshop.
Methods of payment: Paypal, credit card or bank transfer.
Once the payment is received, Microfact registers the participants in the e-learning platform and sends them a confirmation e-mail.
Payments made by bank transfer take a few days to be validated. Make sure you register at least one week before the closing date.
